Bucky Teeth

TREATMENTS FOR
Bucky Teeth
- What is it?
- Treatment Options
Often the top teeth stick out too far in front of the lower teeth. Severe situations also trap the lower lip behind the top teeth, leaving the top protrusive teeth very susceptible to trauma. Normal lip closure is also strained.
Bucky teeth have negative impact on facial profile by exaggerating a small chin or a short upper lip. This often arises due to the lower jaw and lower teeth being set back.
Treatment options depends in severity and age. It can range from a special set of plates called Twin Blocks to widen the jaw and posture the lower jaw forward in young patients.
In adults, we have many options from as simple as changing the angulation of the top teeth, to pushing the top teeth back assisted by gum screws or removing some posterior teeth. Surgery may be recommended but only as a last resort.
