Thumb Sucking

TREATMENTS FOR
Thumb Sucking
- What is it?
- Treatment Options
Prolonged thumb sucking into late childhood leads to permanent bite problems. Early preventative therapy is recommended to help your child naturally cease this habit.
Ongoing thumb sucking will result in a large anterior open bite, narrow upper jaw and a set-back lower jaw.
Early interventional therapy is encouraged. Our orthodontist will assess the problem, and offer conservative solutions using a ‘thumb-sucking from a thumb ” plate.
Treatment later in life will often require an expander, as well as braces with gum screws or Invisalign
